Mattel's Muhammad Ali action figure will be on sale at this year's San Diego Comic-Con and online @ Mattel Creations from 21 July.
Mattel has recently revealed that they're expanding their WWE Ultimate Edition line with an extraordinary new addition: a Muhammad Ali action figure.
The Muhammad Ali action figure, slated for unveiling at the eminent San Diego Comic Con, is a two-pack offer. It promises fans a unique blend of authenticity and versatility, featuring two separate torsos representing Ali's boxing career and his WrestleMania referee appearance. This allows collectors to replicate both his boxing and wrestling personas. Alongside this, the figure will include various heads and swappable hands, staying true to the real-life details of the boxing legend.
What is more, fans can expect Ali's authentic attire, including his signature boxing robe. The packaging will also be a homage to yesteryears, with designs inspired by the pro wrestling and boxing magazines from the 70s and 80s.
While Ali’s illustrious boxing career and humanitarian work have been the focus of much admiration, he also held a brief but memorable role within the world of professional wrestling. This included his role as the special guest outside referee in the main event of the inaugural WrestleMania in March 1985, a team-up event which saw Hulk Hogan and Mr. T face off against “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff.
Ali even landed a punch on Piper, catapulting him right out of the ring!
Ali also had a face-off against Antonio Inoki in a boxer vs. wrestler match in Tokyo in June 1976. It was also during the build-up to this event that Ali jumped from the crowd into the ring with Gorilla Monsoon, which resulted in the boxing legend being slammed to the canvas. These interactions are well captured in the upcoming action figure, commemorating Ali's time within professional wrestling.
The Muhammad Ali action figures will be available online and physically at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. For those who can't make the event, they should head over to MattelCreations.com on Friday, 21 July, from 12 pm ET onwards.
