Hasbro's Anniversary Tee Fumble Angers Power Rangers Fans

This t-shirt's design might just be Rita Repulsa's latest plan to confound us all. But hey, if you want it, it's yours for the pricey sum of $27.99!

Hasbro's Anniversary Tee Fumble Angers Power Rangers Fans

The 30th anniversary of any cherished franchise is a big deal. For fans, it’s a time of celebration, nostalgia, and excitement for what the future may hold. Power Rangers, a beloved series that has sparked inspiration and imagination across generations, reached this milestone today on Power Rangers Day 2023.

Fans have weathered their share of letdowns over the years, but there was a glimmer of hope that this anniversary might be the catalyst for Hasbro to truly deliver something special for the loyal fandom. However, Hasbro's attempt to mark this day has been nothing short of underwhelming, and that might be putting it mildly.

Hasbro tweeted an announcement that should've made fans jump with joy. Instead, it was met with familiar disappointment and, in some corners, outright mockery. The tweet, which also managed to misspell the iconic hashtag as '#PowermorRangers', unveiled a t-shirt available for purchase on their Hasbro Pulse platform.

The t-shirt, priced at a steep $27.99, featured the legendary Megazord and the six classic Power Rangers. For me, it's reminiscent of knock-off merchandise from decades past, like those fake towels kids unwittingly carried to the beach. The colours are horrible and the design is lazy at best. One would expect that on a milestone anniversary, especially the 30th, the official merchandise would be meticulously designed and reflect the occasion.

But this shirt is simply...crap. Even a power coin couldn't morph this t-shirt into a salvageable product.

Fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with many wondering how such a design managed to get approved, especially since it seems to be traced from other products. The t-shirt has clearly been thrown together last minute (at least you would hope that no one actually spent time designing this); completely devoid of heart and soul.

The 30th anniversary isn't just another day; it's a testament to the show's enduring legacy and the community it's built since 1993. An occasion like this deserves more than a seemingly last-minute t-shirt design that doesn't do justice to the iconic characters.

I remember the first time I watched Power Rangers. As soon as that intro finished on our janky CRT TV, my brother and I looked at each other, jaws dropped, and both went "coooool". Just like that, we were hooked. It's that indescribable feeling of childhood wonder and excitement that we, as fans, yearn to recapture. Especially when it comes to an anniversary release from Hasbro, there's this innate hope that it'll reignite that same 'coooool' moment from our past.

Hasbro, as the custodian of the Power Rangers brand, has a responsibility to honour its rich history. They have lots of experience they could have drawn from to give us something exciting. But this T-shirt? It’s like they summoned the Dragonzord but got a gecko instead.
